Growing up in Marshfield, Wisconsin, Lara was surrounded by woods and marsh that were foundational to her perceptions of landscape and the meaning of place. From volunteering on conservation projects to working in her college botanic gardens, Lara has always loved helping others connect with the landscapes around them.

She received a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard University's Graduate School of Design with the Peter Walker and Partners Fellowship for Landscape Architecture, the LAF Steven G. King Play Environments Scholarship, and the Penny White Project Fund for Research on Finnish Outdoor Learning Environments. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies and Italian Studies from Wellesley College with the Eliza Newkirk Rogers Prize in Architecture and the Elizabeth Robinson Prize in Italian Studies.
