Sophie Kaplan-Bucciarelli
Sophie is from Amherst, Massachusetts where she spent her childhood digging for river clay, tending to her family’s summer garden, and hiking the vibrant fall hills. She was first formally introduced to the intersections of design, community, and place while planting public-access fruit trees in the Pioneer Valley for a local nonprofit. These immersions in the natural world piqued her interest in landscape from an early age and continue to inform how she approaches her art and design work today.

Sophie graduated from Vassar College in 2020 with a BA in Urban Studies and a minor in Studio Art. While in school, she spent a semester in Copenhagen in an urban design studio program, cementing her fascination with the relationship between a city’s people, culture, and public spaces. Prior to joining MVVA, she worked on an urban master plan with planner and consultant Susan G. Blickstein, researched for the Urban Design Forum, and oversaw Vassar’s greenhouse. In her spare time, she can be found in the ceramics studio, sketching, or playing ultimate frisbee. Sophie joined MVVA in 2020.
