Ernest Haines
Senior Designer
Ernest was raised in a family that has been farming in southern New Jersey for 12 generations. From an early age he learned about landscape maintenance while tending to the garden, maintaining the yard, and working on the farm. This experience, combined with interests in natural systems, infrastructure, and urban space led him to landscape architecture.

Ernest holds a Bachelor of Science in Urban Design from Parsons School for Design and a Master of Landscape Architecture, with distinction from Harvard Graduate School of Design. At Harvard, he was awarded a 2018 Thesis Prize in Landscape Architecture for his project "Turnpike Metabolism: Reconstituting National Infrastructure Through Landscape." Before joining MVVA, Ernest interned at Gustafson Guthrie Nichol and worked at AECOM. In his spare time, he practices as a photographer, investigating and representing spatial and temporal relationships. This interest extends into work in film and animation.

Ernest interned at MVVA in 2017 and joined as a full-time employee in 2019.
