Charlie Smith
Senior Designer
Charlie grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where his father owns and operates a residential landscape design and contracting company. Some of his earliest memories are of moving earth in a bobcat. During high school summers, Charlie worked in landscape construction, building rock walls, installing irrigation and planting trees. This experience gave him an appreciation for materiality and plant selection and taught him to love the creation of natural environments. It was during these summers that he decided he wanted to become a landscape architect.

Along with his work in landscape construction, Charlie hiked in the Rocky and San Luis Mountains and fished in Colorado’s rivers. His design perspective is influenced by experiencing many Western environments, from alpine meadows to thick evergreen forests and whimsical red rock formations.

Charlie holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Colorado State University and a Master of Landscape Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard Graduate School of Design. He joined MVVA in 2019.
