Austin Chase
Austin developed an early interest in urban design and planning growing up in Herndon, Virginia, a city outside of Washington DC where traditional town patterns intersect with suburban sprawl to create a diverse range of urban conditions. His first encounter with landscape architecture came through working on a landscape construction crew in high school, which taught him the basic spatial and material vocabulary of the profession. His interest then turned to learning more about gardens such as Dumbarton Oaks in Georgetown, which he cites as a particular favorite.

Austin graduated with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Virginia Tech, where he received an ASLA Honor Award and completed a capstone project studying the transformation of linear infrastructure networks into public space networks. Prior experience includes working at the Virginia Tech Community Design Assistance Center and interning with SFCS Architects in Roanoke, Virginia. In his spare time, Austin composes and produces music, an activity he describes as an extension of his work in design.

Austin joined MVVA in 2017.
