Soo Ran Shin
Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Soo Ran moved to upstate New York as a teenager. Living in a different urban context in the US gave her a new perspective on her home city, particularly the way the landscape of the Han River and surrounding mountains enriches everyday urban life. She also draws inspiration from her experiences traveling in Latin America to see landscapes by Roberto Burle Marx and living in New York City. In her spare time, Soo Ran enjoys traditional Korean painting and illustration, which she learned from her grandmother who was a painter.

Soo Ran received a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. At the GSD, her work focused on new ways of seeing urban infrastructure in relationship to landscape architecture, and she worked as a research assistant at the Office for Urbanization and as a teaching assistant for landscape studio courses. Prior to MVVA, she worked for H Architecture, and she has also interned at Smith-Miller and Hawkinson Architects in NYC and the Spazio Nuovo Gallery in Rome.

Soo Ran joined MVVA in 2017.
