John Shively
John is a native of Willows, located in the heart of California's Sacramento Valley. His home state's riparian ecology and environmental events, such as floods and wildfires, intrigued him and served as an early impetus for his study of the environment.
As a student, John worked as a coordinator for Yale University's Urban Farm, a 40-acre forest with multiple initiatives related to agriculture and engineering. Prior to joining MVVA in 2016, John worked as an intern for the World Resources Institute, assisting the President, and as an External Affairs intern for the Urban Institute, both located in Washington, DC. John's design perspective is rooted in his scientific background and his passion for the potential of public space.

John received a Bachelor of Science in environmental studies from Yale University in 2015. After graduation, he attended Harvard's Graduate School of Design's Career Discovery program.
