MVVA’s plan for the Kennedy Garden on Martha’s Vineyard relates a new guest house, pool, and motor court to an existing seaside home, carefully defining the relationship between these elements so they complement the beauty of the original residence. The design orients the new additions around the motor court, deploying hedges to define space and circulation. These hedges encircle the pool and line one side of the entry drive, integrating disparate site elements into a relatively small area without feeling crowded. This arrangement enables the preservation of existing trees and showcases the site’s most exceptional feature: its view. From the entry drive to the walk to the front door, MVVA’s design sustains an uninterrupted, boundless view of the ocean.
